| Jan 2010 Jan 31, 10: New merchandise is available to preview. We are not ready to sell yet, but if you want to look we have pictures available and more to come. We have a limited supply of sweatshirts to start with but can order more. If you are interested in a 2010 IWA sweatshirt, email us so we can get a head count. Jan 29, 10: Schedule has been updated. Check it out. Jan 17, 10: Updates to the membership pricing and entry fee have been made and you can now pay for membership online using PayPal. As voted on at the annual meeting, membership fee increased across the board for annual pricing to $155 but the yearbook fee is dropped. Yearbook profiles are due by April 15th. Entry fee's did not increase but we combined the user fee to make one flat fee versus 2 separate fee's. Early membership is $140 prior to May1st. To be included in the yearbook you have to be a member of the IWA at the time of printing which will be May 1st. If you have questions, please email us. Jan 13, 10: Hello Folks! I hope you all had a nice holiday season and a happy new year. It’s a pretty quiet time of the year for IWA business, but there are a few things happening that I would like to share with the group. First of all, it looks as is the race in Billings, MT is not going to happen this year. The group out there really wanted to get something together, but we just couldn’t find a good enough balance on the financial end of things in order to make a deal that would work for all sides involved. I think we will continue to talk with them and hope that things may change. As for other race sites, I have 2 that are really serious about hosting an event in 2010. One is the I-94 Rec club in Sauk Centre, MN. They are sanctioning the ORA ice oval race and are very interested in hosting a watercross as well. This group knows how to put on an event, so they are way ahead of the game. They have fundraising methods in place, they have a couple of options for race sites, and they are flexible on dates. I really expect to see an IWA event in Sauk Centre this August. The same goes for the group out of Garrison, MN. The Garrison commercial club also is promoting an ORA event and would love to have the IWA be there to race in the summer as well. I have also had continued contact with Theresa Erickson from Milnor, ND. The Erickson’s would really like to have the IWA back on the farm. It is a great race site and a lot of fun, so we are keeping our options open there as well. As for the rest of the schedule, Moose Lake is all set for June 5-6, Frederic is still up in the air for June 12-13, Ely is a lock for the weekend of June 27-28, Grantsburg will be rockin’ as usual on July 16, 17, 18. And Wausau is in tune for the 28th-29th of August.. We have a couple of dates that we would like to fill in September (at least one date). I will keep you posted as things develop Both Jenefer and I are also working hard getting Oval Racers Alliance off the ground. It has been a tremendous battle, dealing with many factors that have not helped make this a smooth integration. Luckily, we have a good business plan and good people in place to implement the plan. ORA is still looking for some help during our February races. If you would like to volunteer to help us out, I will put you in touch with the right people, just shoot me an email.
There was also some talk about people from the IWA going to the snocross at Caterbury to help promote IWA racing. I will be in Bemidji at an ice oval race, so I cannot be there. I would however help facilitate any effort made to do something. Any of you who are interested in doing something there, we have our BRAND new t-shirts and sweatshirts arriving tomorrow. We would be able to offer the newest, coolest stuff of all at a booth if we got the hookup. Like I said, if someone got with ISOC and have a vendor space, we would get you shirts and sweatshirts and videos and such. Heck, I would even haul our HD Flatscreen down for video purposes. Other news: In the rules discussion it was talked about and eventually tabled about allowing aftermarket exhaust for certain sleds in the Pro Stock class. After much discussion, at this time, the rule is not going to be changed and shall be observed as it is listed. If you have any questions about this decision, please let me know. Also, we are working on making our website look a little better. If you have seen the oval racers alliance website, I really like the way that one came out. For those of you who are computer types and understand this nonsense, I will lay it out for you. The old IWA site is created in a program called Microsoft Frontpage. Frontpage is easy to work with but lacks some of the cool template stuff you see with other sites. The ORA site is created with a program called Wordpress. It is a great “blogging” type site and the template we picked out works pretty good., however, it has many limitations for us at this time. We like the flexibility that we have with Frontpage and want to continue working with it on the IWA website. We are, however, going to try to give the site an “edgier” look. Any suggestions on the website or examples of other sites are helpful, so send them to me. I hope you are all having a good winter season, ours is just getting started. Heading to Eagle River for my 35th time at the Derby. Hope to see some of you there. Mike Benoy IWA President
