NEWS FOR DRIVERS

Comprehensive list of non-oxy gas available in MN:  PDF

Here is a comprehensive summary of rule changes for 2011:

VI C 3:  Change rule to read For PRO class belly pan style must be from within 7 model years and from a snowmobile 600cc or larger.

X D:  Change rule to read:  For PRO class belly pan style must be from within 7 model years and from a snowmobile 600cc or larger.

IV C 6:  Add:  Shirt of below elbow length and shoes (no open toes) are required in the hot pit area at all times.

IV C 3:  Change rule to read:  Shoes, socks, long pants (no exposed skin below the waist) and race shirts with sleeves below the elbow required.  No open toed shoes allowed

IV C 1:  Change rule to read:  ECE 22.05 or SNELL M2005 or equivalent approved Full Face Helmet.  Helmet must be predominantly blaze or international orange in color.  More than 50% of its entire outer surface including the visor must be orange.  Should your helmet not pass tech due to coloring, we will have decals to purchase at the merchandise trailer.

IV C 2:  Change rule to read:  4 buckle life vests with 1.5 inch straps or equivalent U.S.C.G. (or Canadian equivalent) approved 100 M.P.H. rated life vest.

XVI E:  add:  Any jump starts that occur after field is set will be scored in the order that they occur unless the starting line official can not determine this.  At that point the drivers will race for position.  Both will be scored as sunk (S).

XI D:  reviewed rule:  motion made but exactly as current rule states.  600 Mod can run in Stock class but must follow respective Pro or Semi Pro Open class chassis rules.

XVI A:  remove rule stating that sled driver brings to line the first time for the weekend in each class is snowmobile he/she must race the balance of the weekend.  This will allow a driver to race a “backup” sled as long as “backup” sled is following rule II D.

Bylaw changes:  Changes made to IWA bylaws to reflect changes to treasurer position.

If you have questions about these rules, please email us.

*We are looking for donations of life jackets to use throughout the  race season.  As voted on at the annual meeting, we will be enforcing the rule regarding life vests and helmets.  If your equipments doesn't meet specifications, you can rent a life vest from the IWA and/or purchase a decal for the back of your helmet or possibly not race.  We would like to have donations for life vests to rent if possible.  You must contact us ahead of time if you intend to rent a vest to make sure we have some available.

*Also for everyone, we will be enforcing the life vest and helmet rules at each event.  Life vest must have a 4-buckle design with straps that are 1.5" minimum or carry the USCG 100MPH Rating.   Helmets must be Snell M2005 or newer OR ECE 22.05 and be  predominantly blaze or international orange in color.  More than 50% of its entire outer surface including the visor must be orange.  Should your helmet not pass tech due to coloring, we will have decals to purchase at the merchandise trailer.  IF you don't have appropriate gear, you can rent a life vest (depending on supplies) for $25/weekend plus a $50 deposit or you'll be required to purchase orange stickers to place on the back of your helmet at $5 or you may not be able to race.  We don't have helmets so PLEASE come prepared with the appropriate equipment for everyone's safety.

If your helmet has a Snell rating, it should be identified as such on the back of the helmet as in Picture 1.  (Click to enlarge).  However, the true Snell Rating that we are looking for is inside the helmet under the headliner.  Remove the headliner as in Picture 2 shows.  Under the headliner, you will find a Snell Rating sticker which shows your rating.  In this case, the rating on the helmet is Snell M2000 as in Picture 3.  Snell Ratings of  M2005 are the only acceptable helmets.   If you are planning on purchasing a new helmet for this race season, you will want to make sure that you are purchasing a helmet with a Snell Rating of M2005 so you will be able to use it in the future.  This is not an IWA rule/policy, this is an ISR rule/policy that is required for insurance purposes and will be strictly enforced.  Picture 4 is inappropriate as is it Snell M95 rating.  Picture 5 is approved as a Snell M2005.  ECE 22.05 rating is clearly on the back of the helmet.
